Solves Parking Problems in Society
There is no doubt there that we need more parking space. But people are so used to not paying for parking that they don’t feel obliged to do so anywhere and don’t use the paid parking space available. Through awareness drives, the government can tell the public about their interest and actions to build smart parking lots than the existing ones. Provide better transportation options, so people travel less with their vehicles, causing less traffic congestion and nuisances. Also, make people understand that with overpopulation, the government need space and finance to accommodate parking space for everyone.
Make People Aware of the Parking Norms
There is a need to make people understand the rules and regulations related to parking. Most people don’t know where to park or why they cannot park on footpaths, in front of public places and on private properties without their consent. The government can make people aware of the imposed fines they will have to pay if they park in unauthorised parking areas. Regarding places where it is prohibited to park, such as in front of hospitals, schools, parks, footpaths, on the main road, or anywhere it creates hindrance and traffic congestion.
To Educate People About Parking at Designated Places
If there is a reserved parking sign, you cannot park there; if you do, then authorities are liable to make your vehicle unmovable. With awareness drives, the government can educate people on how one should always park in the parking area allotted by them or in the private parking garages to avoid causing inconvenience to anyone. They can also install road safety signages showcasing available parking spots, prohibited parking, and reserved parking spots to prevent parking misconduct.
To Know the Problems of the Motorists
The public is the real victim of the parking problem, as government officials don’t have to face such issues. There are no clear signs on the road regarding where to park or not. There is not enough space to park, and when parked on the street, authorities either deflate their tyres or tow their vehicles, causing unnecessary inconvenience to people. The government can look into the problems faced by motorists through these drives as they get to interact with the public and see their issues in real-time.
Importance of NGOs participation
Non-Government Organisations are the government’s reality check as they keep all government activities in check. They raise their voice against the injustice caused to the public or take action to provide help to the unheard. Government should seek assistance from different NGOs working in the field of parking management or parking rules enforcement. Several NGOs are working for the betterment of society and to increase overall road safety. One such NGO is Indian Parking Association working for safe, ethical and economical parking enforcement.
Role of IPA in Awareness Drives
Parking issues are one of the prime problems that are inevitable as of now with the lack of norms and space available for parking. The government needs to come up with better plans and actions to reduce parking-related issues. Parking awareness drives are a great government initiative to raise attention towards traffic issues and road accidents, teach valuable lessons to parking violators, etc.
